TCNJ Chapter of National Society of Black Engineers Attends Regional Conference

Earlier this academic year, the TCNJ chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) attended the NSBE Fall Regional Conference in Niagara Falls, NY. Students had the opportunity to network with their peers from other institutions from across the Northeast as well as with representatives from companies such as General Electric, Merck and Exxon Mobil to discuss possible internship and job opportunities during the career fair.

TCNJ NSBE members also enjoyed attending workshops focused on professional, personal, and financial literacy development. Mechanical engineering student and chapter President Obioma Chukwuocha said the “Industrial Engineering: A Primer” workshop allowed him to “get an in-depth look at industrial engineering through the day-to-day work habits of industrial engineers and the types of machines/equipment and processes of many companies.”
Students had the opportunity to practice their elevator pitches, participate in the “Academic Tech Bowl” featuring questions from a previous FE exam and compete in technical challenges.  In the words of computer engineering major Marcus Holley, everyone at the conference has a common goal: “To increase the number of black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.”
