TCNJ alumnus and adjunct professor Dr. Chris Brinton gave his talk on networks for Engineering Lecture Week. His presentation, “The Power of Networks: What Facebook, Cell Phones, and Online Courses Have in Common”, brings a new spin on networks to TCNJ engineering students and faculty
In contrast to the heavy math students learn in class, Dr. Brinton’s talk explains the intricacies of networks without mathematics. This method of understanding networks makes students and faculty look at networks from an entirely different perspective than they may be used to. Dr. Brinton’s relaxed and engaging presentation uses tangible examples to which the students can relate. For instance, Dr. Brinton explained the way in which Amazon product reviews work. He also explained the method that Netflix uses to formulate suggestions for a user. More information about Dr. Brinton’s can be learned from his book “The Power of Networks: Six Principles That Connect Our Lives” which he co-authored with his Princeton University Mentor Dr. Mung Chiang.
