The objective of the TCNJ Motorlions is to construct a rugged vehicle to compete in the nationally sponsored Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Mini Baja competition. The construction of the vehicle is multi-faceted and involves research, design, analysis, fabrication, and testing. Adherence to engineering principles, standards, codes, and analysis software is necessary to create a safe, effective vehicle. Fabrication of the vehicle is done in-house, typically requiring metalworking and assembly. Upon completion, the Baja car is tested in both static and dynamic events including: design presentation, cost/technical reports, acceleration, maneuverability, sled pull, suspension and traction, and a four hour endurance race. The vehicle is currently registered to race in the Baja SAE Series on May 22nd in Kansas.
