TCNJ Grad Wins 2020 Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award

Dr. Christopher G. Brinton recently won one of Purdue University’s 2019-2020 Outstanding Faculty Mentor awards in recognition of his mentoring of graduate students in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in his first year as a professor at the university. Dr. Brinton credits TCNJ for instilling the value of small classes and easy access to passionate professors thus influencing his teaching style at Purdue. Reflecting on his undergraduate years at TCNJ, Dr. Brinton shared that his undergraduate advisor, Dr. Allen Katz, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, became a role model for him. “We could call him or drop by his office with questions pretty much any time we wanted, not only because he loves what he does, but also because he was truly invested in our success. I try to retain this ‘open door policy’ with my graduate and undergraduate students as much as possible.” Achieving this recognition at a top 10 university for electrical and computer engineering, Dr. Brinton is “extremely humbled” and “extremely honored to be recognized for mentoring our wonderful students.”

Since graduating from TCNJ Engineering in 2011, Christopher Brinton achieved his PhD in Electrical Engineering at Princeton University, and became an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. His research group works “at the intersection of data science and network optimization, developing data-driven optimization methodologies for communication and social networks, with a particular emphasis on distributed edge intelligence currently.”
