The Mini Grand Challenge is a competition typically hosted by Pennsylvania State University where colleges from around the country each build a completely autonomous vehicle and race across the university’s campus. Given a series of six GPS waypoints, the vehicle will have to navigate across varied terrain, while avoiding obstacles, road detours, and entertaining the crowd.
TCNJ’s 2012 UGV team is creating an electric-powered vehicle from commercially available, off the shelf components to compete in this challenge. The design will incorporate GPS navigation, computer vision, and a custom motor controller. The computer vision will be implemented using OpenCV libraries and an Xbox Kinect. This system will drive the motor controller, which will be built using an Arduino Uno.
