Two groups of TCNJ Engineering students competed in the New Jersey Section of the American Water Works Association’s (NJ-AWWA) annual student design poster competition in April 2009 in Atlantic City, NJ. The competition is held during the NJ-AWWA annual conference which is attended by over 1000 practicing engineers devoted to supplying safe drinking water and water for irrigation to residents in the state of New Jersey.
The TCNJ Engineering students submitted posters detailing the projects they are currently working on in association with the School’s chapter of Engineers without Borders (EWB-TCNJ). The first poster – “Thailand Water Resources Project – Clean Drinking Water Distribution System” detailed the design of a drinking water distribution system which will be used to deliver clean water to approximately 100 people in a developing community in Phrao, Thailand. The second poster – “Thailand Water Resources Project – Rainwater Catchment System for Irrigation” detailed the design of a mountainside rainwater catchment system used to harvest and supply rainwater for agriculture and irrigation purposes for the same developing community.
Each groups posters were very well received with the drinking water system project taking first place overall and the irrigation system finishing second.
