We are pleased to announce a new M.Ed. i-STEM program –this program offers an intellectually stimulating course of study which provides in-service teachers with current, integrative, design-centric teaching and learning methods applicable across PK-12 grade levels.
The Department of Technological Studies in the School of Engineering at TCNJ is a national leader in PK-12 Technology, Engineering, and integrative-STEM education.

Key features of this M.Ed. are:
> INTEGRATIVE: Emphasis on Integrative (cross-curricular) methods between the STEM components and non-STEM content areas.
>DESIGN PEDAGOGIES: Design-centric Project-Based Learning (PBL) methods are covered extensively. These PBL methods enable higher cognitive student engagement, and include highly contextualized settings.
>CONTENT AREA KNOWLEDGE: Content in individual STEM areas are covered. Additional NJ State content endorsements may be possible depending on individual’s backgrounds.
>PRACTICAL APPROACH: Gives teachers practical skills, including curricular writing, inclusive practices, assessment and deep connections to current educational standards. TCNJ college certificates or NJ State Supervisor certification are also possible.
Who : School teachers certified at any level should consider this program.
Teachers should preferably be in-service/currently teaching, or have reasonable access to Pk-12 students. Certification could be in any State, and setting could be public, private, charter, or magnet school, and potentially informal settings. Since this program emphasizes design-centric learning, applicants from any content area (STEM or non-STEM) should consider this program.
What : The i-STEM M.Ed. degree consists of 3 categories of requirements:
|1. iSTEM Teaching & Learning Core (15 credits)|
|2. STEM Ed Content & Research Courses (3 credits)|
|3. Electives/Pathways (4 electives per pathway, 3 credits each)*|
*The i-STEM Masters program is designed with 4 electives, enabling the completion of more specialized curricular pathways, culminating in a TCNJ college certificate and/ or a NJ State certification. It is not required to choose any specific pathway. All courses below are 3 credits each.
