On October 1st, the School of Engineering hosted its fifth annual Alumni Mentoring and Networking Event. The event was held as part of the School’s Alumni Mentoring program which provides the opportunity for students to communicate, interview, and network with alumni mentors. Students use the program to seek out critical career advice from a large number of professionals and to develop useful and life-long networking skills. Over 60 students and 50 alumni mentors attended the event, as well as several faculty members and program founder, Dean Steven Schreiner. Alumni mentors came from both industry and academic positions, representing companies such as Lockheed Martin, Stryker, NAVAIR and graduate schools such as Princeton, Boston University, and UMDNJ.
Mechanical Engineering student Michael Sebok commented on the atmosphere of the event,
“The networking event was a unique opportunity to interact with professionals with a diverse set of backgrounds. Not only did I gain insight into my mentor’s career path, I also discovered many of the possible applications of a mechanical engineering degree.”
In addition, Civil Engineering student Cortney Natalicchio remarked on what she gained from attending the event,
“The networking event was great because it put me in a room full of successful engineers, whether they were fresh out of college, currently in grad school, or already in the field for a number of years. It was a great place to connect and talk to people about their experience. Having this opportunity helped me realize and narrow down my goals before I graduate next year.”
The School of Engineering is looking forward to its Spring 2015 Alumni Reunion and Networking event on February 25th, 2015. Alumni seeking more information about the event should contact roths@tcnj.edu.
