The Antenna and Propagation (AP-S) and the Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT) Joint Chapter held their 28th Annual Symposium and Mini-Show on Thursday, October 3, 2013 in the Hanover Manor in Hanover, NJ. The program consisted of technical sessions from 8:50 am until 4:40 pm as well as a mini-show that featured the latest products (9:30 am until 4:30 pm). The annual conference provided the most current information and developments in Microwave and communications technology. Dr. Allen Katz stepped in for Dr. John Wood, who was unable to attend, and delivered a presentation on “Linearizing High Power Amplifiers with Emphasis on GaN”, which discussed the trades involved in using linearization in a microwave high power amplifier. Emphasis was placed on the use of predistortion linearization and particularly on its application with amplifiers employing recently available microwave GaN FET power devices.
TCNJ students Dan Fisher and Klevore Buren, also spoke at the annual symposium. They presented their winning design for the 2013 IMS Photonics Student Competition. They received a cash award of $2,000 and a paper on their design was published in the IEEE’s Microwave Magazine. This was an impressive achievement for Fisher and Klevore since they were among very few undergraduates competing in the Student Competition.
