Mark Sidebottom earns “Outstanding Senior Male Scholar-Athlete” Recognition

Mark SidebotomThe College of New Jersey Department of Athletics and Recreation hosted its annual celebration of classroom achievement for their student-athletes at its Academic Honors Celebration on Sunday morning in the Brower Student Center Room 202.

Hosted by men’s swimming coach and associated athletic director Brian Bishop, Student Athletic Advisory Committee President and baseball player Joe Dispoto and Elite 89 Award winner and field hockey player Meredith Jeffries, the event gathered student-athletes, coaches, professors, administrators, and parents. (Dispoto was unable to attend due to conference make-up games being played on Sunday.)

Students who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or better while participating in intercollegiate athletics were guests of honor. The program also gave tribute to student-athletes who have maintained a GPA of 3.0 – 3.29. A total of 216 athletes attained an average of 3.3 or higher, while an additional 131 boasted a 3.0 or better.

The top honors went to cross country and track athletes Rachel Morris and Mark Sidebottom. Morris, an education major and Sidebottom, a mechanical engineering major were awarded the Dr. Harold W. Eickhoff Outstanding Senior Male Scholar-Athlete and Dr. Harold W. Eickhoff Outstanding Senior Female Scholar-Athlete awards. Morris was a New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team honoree in cross country this fall. Sidebottom helped the Lions to their 17th consecutive cross country conference title and 16th straight in indoor track and field.
